7th and 8th grade science classes built bridge and tower structures as part of a team challenge. The goal of the challenges was to work as a team in planning and constructing a structure that would support the most weight. Take a look at some of their work!
This morning marks the first live announcement for the 2021 school year! We kicked things off with a dizzy relay to start our class competition and recognized some Rockets for demonstrating the Rocket Way!

Congratulations to the 7th grade volleyball team in their win against Mona Shores last night. Leading the team in service points was Nola Hower and Makenzie Jacobs.
More congratulations to the 8th grade volleyball team in their win against Mona Shores last night. They won 25-12, 11-25, 17-15. Service point leaders were Carlee Bowen, Ashley Bradley, and Jayla Trepanier. Passing leaders were Carlee Bowen, Eliana Talamantez, and Abby Hill. Great job ladies!!!
The Reeths-Puffer Cross Country team had a strong performance in their first meet of the season. The Rocket Ladies had some exceptional performances in the JV race, including Mallorie Messor in 2nd, Kaitlyn Durow in 10th, and Bella Cole in 16th. The Varsity Girls took 4th place with Jersi Bilek finishing 3rd overall. Also scoring for the ladies were Gracie Callander, Gabrielle Chevez, Darcy Keefe and Hope Latsch.
The Rocket Boys put in great work last night as well, finishing 6th. Leading the way was Jack Yonkman who finished 13th overall. Helping the boys score points was Beckett Mathes, Dylan Sturr, Kristian Brown and Kaden Vanderlaan. Way to go Rocket Cross Country!

Are you interested in joining chess club? If so, please stop by Ms. Cumbee’s room (706) to sign up. Chess Club will meet weekly, after school, starting on September 22nd.
The 7th grade football team came out strong yesterday with an opening season 26-6 victory over the Muskegon Big Reds. The defense led the way with relentless pressure and pursuit from Joey Hall, Lyric Stewart, and Connor McManus. This led the way for the offense to score four times throughout the game. Strong play from the offensive line allowed JC Tornes to score twice as well as long runs from both Bryce Muskovin and Tre Foster. The Rockets will look to go for another win next week at home against Grand Haven.
The 8th grade football team opened up their season against the Muskegon Big Reds. The Rockets struggled to get things going and fell 42-0 to a talented Muskegon team. Please come out and support them next Wednesday against Grand Haven.
Come support our 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball teams as they take on Mona Shores tonight at 4pm in the gym. Cost for students is $2.
Tomorrow will be the start of Friday Live Announcements! Each Friday, we will celebrate with live announcements that will include a competition between the 7th and 8th grade students. To participate each week, you can't have any major referrals. One of the goals of this time is to celebrate the Rocket Way - the Respect, Pride, and Integrity in the building.
Amazing RPMS educators returned this week and have been having a blast getting ready to be the best for our students. Can’t wait for kids to return Monday! Go Rockets!

Summer Meal Pick Up - 7 days of breakfast and lunches will be available for students throughout the summer. Meal pick-ups are MONDAYS 1:30 - 2:30 pm, Giles Side parking lot double doors at the High School. This program is OPEN and FREE to all RP students and any other child in the community that is under 18 (or 26 with special needs).
K-3 Reading Corps - AmeriCorps stipend positions!
Make a difference in our community and join Michigan Education Corps as an AmeriCorps Reading Interventionist. Central Elementary and Reeths-PufferElementary are looking for reading interventionists to give their time and talent to help our kids become successful readers and learners.
Interventionists serve students one-on-one during school hours throughout the school year. No matter if you’re a recent grad, career changer, stay-at-home parent or retiree, you can make a great interventionist. No experience? No problem. Michigan Education Corps provides comprehensive training in scripted interventions proven to help students learn, so interventionists are well equipped to help students grow.
Part-time and full-time positions are available. Positions begin September 7, 2021.

● Complete experiential and training hours toward the Michigan Youth Development Associate (MI-YDA) credential

Today, we got to celebrate our eighth graders. The transition from middle school to high school is a big one and we know they are ready. The staff selected a strength that we thought best described each student and also presented each student with a class photo. We can’t wait to watch these strengths grow as students explore their passions and skills in high school. Our eighth graders also won the year-long point challenge and voted on celebrating with slushy’s. Even without a pandemic, the middle school years are well known as awkward, challenging, and full of ups and downs. The class of 2025 has made us proud. They are hopeful, optimistic, resilient, creative, inquisitive, adaptive, hard working, athletic, brave, and kind. Rocket City has a lot to be proud of!
We know that schools teach reading, math, critical thinking, problem-solving, and skills in many areas. What the pandemic has also helped us to understand more than ever is also how schools connect people and communities. Today was a day that we got to celebrate our school pride, resilience, grit, and our connections to each other. Despite our Pride Day being simpler than the past, the sun shined a little brighter, the smiles seemed a little bigger, and all of the connectedness was a little sweeter. It was a great day to be a rocket!
