In Robotics and CS Discoveries (formerly known as Coding), students are given many opportunities to practice the messy cycle of problem-solving by preparing, trying, reflecting, defining, and bouncing around each phase until solutions are found. Problem solving in action is such an exciting thing to watch.
According to a seventh grade student today, “ I think I know everything I can possibly know about energy now. I never even thought about how complicated it is.” In part 2 of the science lab, the mass changes and students explore potential energy versus kinetic energy.
We missed the sunshine today, but got a lot of outdoor learning time last week under the sun.
It was a gorgeous day to use watermelon, eggs, and pendulums to help our students understand kinetic energy. Our students continue to grow as thinkers, communicators, and problem solvers through the content.
We caught some photos of a few of our STUDENT athletes learning today( that happen to be in uniform). While crowds are limited, school spirit is still high and football, cheer, cross country, and volleyball are all excited to compete tonight. Students collaborate around how to make the light work with the parts given. The group must come to a consensus and use a diagram to represent their thinking. The learning of how to work as a team and communicate is just as important as the science.
It was a great day For the students to be outside and participate in socially distanced Physical Education.
Books are meant to be in the hands of our students! The process just needs to look a little bit different this year. Students can check out books electronically and request books. The title is then pulled and left for a student to pick up from the library. Our students should all have a list of books that they would like to read. Also, the books are isolated for a period of time before they can return to circulation.
Great teachers really are "lead learners" and we had the opportunity on our half day today to grow and learn from each other as professionals. Here are some of the takeaways... 1. It has been a great start. We feel like we know our students well already. 2. We care about the social growth of your student and their well-being and we can plan for that within our building. 3. We love seeing engagement with our content as students learn, collaborate, and think critically. We can plan for engagement. 4. We know we will need to continue to teach behaviors, especially regarding safety and we can plan for that. Our time together is always valuable as we plan to serve our students best. Go Rockets!

Card sorting (while distanced) helps math makes sense AND allows our students practice with communication and collaboration.
Don’t forget tomorrow is a half-day. Our day starts at 7:55 and ends at 10:55. On half days, we are able to send students with just breakfast at the end of the day.
Tinfoil has so many more uses than the leftovers. Our theater students used tinfoil as a method of communication today. It is awesome to see the relationships forming.
