Help us with a double celebration. We just realized we did not post our Rocket slip winners last week. There is so much respect, pride, and integrity on display. It is the greatness in our students that makes our school great.

Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Hernandez get to join the percussion group to work on rhythm and timing. It was fun and NOT easy, but the students were super kind and supportive. Percussion is definitely not easy.

Students progress through the art program, the products they create become more and more diverse, even though they may be practicing the same skill or have a common theme. We love seeing our students personalities reflected through art.

Help us give a shout out to our high school interns this semester. They signed up to learn more about the behind the scenes of working in a school, but we are going to let the secret out that we probably learn more and our middle school students benefit and learn the more from them. Interns are a great reminder for us at the middle school about how much students grow after they leave eighth grade! Thank you interns.

Yay...It’s Friday which means we celebrate all the greatness going on. Five names were drawn and we got pictures of four....and this represents the thousands of acts demonstrating respect, pride, and integrity by our students. Our students make us proud to be a rocket!

What does a car look like that has a fully functioning gas pedal /accelerator, but a brake system that is not fully working? This slightly out of control car is an example of what is going on with the teen brain. Parents, we are sharing because we know you can relate and it is good to be aware of science behind it. Your teen (and pre-teen) may feel ALL the emotions and passion without always being able to regulate them because the limbic system (gas pedal) is fully developed, but the prefrontal cortex (brake system) is not until 25! We are sharing because the science can help us feel sane and shape the way we approach the structure we provide and opportunities to teach behaviors. It is part of why we value teaching teens and preteens so much. Click on the link below to check out this graphic that has come up among some staff recently. http://www.ascd.org/ASCD/pdf/journals/ed_lead/el202005_brain.pdf

The future of our world will be changed by problem-solving and collaboration. Our students got some practice with that today in science. Middle school students that can problem solve and collaborate become engineers, doctors, teachers, city planners, and adults that can problem solve and collaborate. We love how our face-to-face students were able to welcome our virtual students into the project as well.

In science, some of our eighth graders Kicked off their study about the layers of the earth AND built their capacity to collaborate and work as a team by working on a paper-mâché project. The parts of this project will allow our students to explore the content And become better collaborators, communicators, and problem solvers.

Help!!! We are appreciative that many families are transporting students as requested. Two things that can help with morning drop off... 1. Pull all the way forward in the circle drive (all the way around the circle...all the way...as much as possible). 2. Make sure your student is ready to exit the car when the vehicle stops. We don't need to tuck and roll out, but please have stuff ready to exit right away. Other things: -Please do not park in the circle drive. -After 7:30, do not drop off where the busses park (see diagram).

There was a little bit of white confetti for our last-first-day celebration of the year! We have amazing students… each morning, we have caught students holding the door. Small acts of kindness goes such a long way. It is going to be a great semester!
