Good Afternoon RPI Families,
A while ago I wrote to you all about how we can work together to teach our behavioral expectations of “RESPECT. PRIDE. INTEGRITY. THE ROCKET WAY!” Thank you! While we have had some challenging times, as any school does, over 96% of our students have 0-1 behavioral referral!! That is a great statistic. This is a clear example of all of us being on board with, talking about and to remind students of expectations at school. RPI is a great place to learn and grow!
I’d like to now shift our conversations to a new characteristic...empathy. Defined as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another, empathy is a very difficult concept and characteristic for some students to understand. So, my challenge for the week is this: How can we show empathy this week? Better yet, how can we (parents, students, teachers, administrators, staff) show others that they matter? How can we look beyond ourselves and come to the assistance of another person? What can we do to put others first in a time of need? A couple of examples: helping out another student who drops their papers all over the floor, holding the door for a stranger, doing a chore around the house that isn’t ask of you because you know your parents are busy and this could really help? Listen to someone who is in a time of need? I could go on for a long time about what these mean but I think you get the point. Our world is so fast paced, full of stress and a to do list that seems to never shrink and only swell that we forget sometimes that these little conversations (even if it's for 3 minutes on the way to school or bus stop) can make a profound difference when kids are faced with situations at school. Take the time...the kids in our community deserve it!
A couple announcements for the week:
RP Ink: Here is the Ink Newsletter for this week!
Half Day: We will have another half day on October 25 and then again the next week, November 1.
Parent/Teacher Conference: We will hold these on November 6/7 from 5-8pm. More information to follow.
Have a great week everyone! Go Rockets!
