Good Afternoon RPI Families,
As we prepare for our first full week of school, I want to encourage you to continue to have conversations with your son/daughter(s) about “The Rocket Way!” This week, I’d like to focus on Respect. Defined as a deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements by dictionary.com. Now, that’s a lot of words, especially for students in the middle level. So here in Rocket City, we break it down like this: Show others, objects, and self they matter. A much simpler way of looking at it, but a challenging thing for us all. How do we as parents show others and objects that they matter? How can we model this for our kids? Trust me, as a parent of a very perceptive 3 year old, who picks up on everything, this is no easy task. How might you have conversations on the way to school, practices, family commitments or the dinner table around respect? When we are mindful of our actions and how we treat others, we earn respect...and that is truly The Rocket Way!
Here are a few announcements for the week:
Morning Drop Off: THANK YOU for taking action on my suggestion to pull all the way forward. When you all do that, we are able to drop 8 students off at a time versus only 2-3 students when people don’t pull forward. I know that those who are waiting on Getty appreciate it because the line runs faster and more smoothly!
Reminder, DO NOT drop off a student unless you are next to the curb. Student Safety is our number one goal in the morning and this is very unsafe. Please talk to your high school students and other family members who drop off in the morning.
Donuts with the Principals: Friday, September 27 at 9am! We are moving 1 hour later to accommodate parents dropping students at elementary buildings (great idea from one of our parents!)
Reeths-Puffer Gear! Our parent connect is taking orders for RP gear. See the attached flier for more information.
Wear a Hat Friday! In partnership with the high school IMPACT group and Mona Shores Public Schools, we are sponsoring Wear a hat for $1 this Friday. As a former Mona Shores employee, I can vouch that this event is one of the greatest events of the year in our community. All money raised goes to support local veterans groups. Mona Shores is attempting to, with the help of the Reeths-Puffer community, to raise over $3000. Please send your son/daughter to school on Friday with a hat (school appropriate) and $1 to help our local veterans and first responders. Plan to attend the game too! There will be vehicles from local Police, Fire, EMS, Army, and Coast Guard! The Hooligans (local historic war planes) fly over at the conclusion of the Star Spangled Banner and in the past they have had helicopters like Army Apache, Chinook and Black Hawk. It is a great community night! GO GREEN!
KnowSmoke Vape Education Information: The KnowSmoke Coalition has been working in Muskegon County for over a decade to promote a tobacco free county through education, cessation and prevention. At the end of 2018, a vaping task-force was created consisting of DFC coalition members, school administration and law enforcement. The taskforce was created to combat the local vaping epidemic within Muskegon County. This flier does a great job of educating us on what to look for and some of the dangers that surround the use of vapes.
