The Reeths-Puffer competitive cheer team finished in second place in the O-K Green conference final standings after taking the runner-up spot at last Wednesday’s conference tournament at Zeeland West High School.
Now the Rockets are headed into the final few meets of the regular season before they dive back into the state tournament for what they hope will be another great run.
R-P made it all the way to the Division 2 state finals a year ago, finishing in seventh place.
The Rockets finished with 738.04 points at the conference tournament, behind champion Mona Shores, which totaled 762.48.
R-P scored a 231.7 in Round 1 (execution), a 209.14 in Round 2 (overall skills) and a 297.2 in Round 3 (stunting).
“We’ve seen a lot of improvements in the last couple of weeks,” said R-P Assistant Coach Emily Bouchard. “We had a really tough couple of weeks in a few different competitions. Mentally the team was not all on the same page, but we pulled it together and figured out a way.
“This sport is performance-based. Everything we do is practice makes perfect. It’s a you vs. you sport. We had to figure some things out execution-wise. You score on how clear and precise and effortless you can make things look, and we’re starting to navigate that, for sure.”
The Rockets will compete at the Grandville Invitational on Monday, then will host the Rocket Invitational on Feb. 11.
