R-P cheerleaders

The Reeths-Puffer competitive cheerleading squad improved in every area at Wednesday night's O-K Green Conference Jamboree at Muskegon High School – but Mona Shores was just a little bit better.

The Rockets scored a 232.4 in Round 1 (execution), which was nearly 15 points higher than last week. Mona Shores was slightly better at 233.1.

The Rockets scored 215.98 in round 2 (overall skills), 16.3 points higher than last week. Mona Shores came in at 219.6.

Reeths-Puffer scored a season-high 310 in round 3 (stunting), a full 37.4 points higher than last week. Mona Shores had a 311.8.

So despite the outstanding performance, the Rockets finished a close second to the Sailors in the final standings.

Mona Shores totaled 764.5 points while R-P had 758.3. Muskegon finished third in the competition, followed by Zeeland West, Wyoming and Zeeland East.

“With a score of 758.3, we could not be prouder,” said R-P assistant coach Emily Bouchard. “We were 69 points higher than last week. This isn’t the end! We have about six weeks left in our season and we can’t wait to continue the work.

“The key to success in this sport is maintaining a constant climb, and the girls are committed to just that. We are a state-ranked team and the girls are proving that they deserve that recognition.”
