The Reeths-Puffer boys basketball team bounced back from Monday’s painful two-point loss with a convincing 58-44 victory over East Grand Rapids on Wednesday at the Cornerstone University Holiday Tournament in Grand Rapids.

The game was close after one quarter, with R-P clinging to a 10-8 lead, then the Rockets took control by outscoring EGR 21-6 in the second quarter and 20-14 in the third.

Junior Jaxson Whitaker had a big night for R-P, collecting 22 points, four rebounds and four assists. After the game he was selected to the All-Tournament team.

R-P's Jaxson Whitaker, shown here last week against Grand Haven, scored 22 points.

Brayden Mitchelson tossed in 14 important points for the Rockets, Travis Ambrose totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Antrel Jones contributed six rebounds and six assists.

“It was a great bounce-back game for us tonight after a couple of tough losses,” said R-P coach Nate Aardema, whose team is now 2-2 on the season. “Our guys shared the ball really well, defended much better and showed trust in each other and our system.”

The Rockets will return to the court next Wednesday at home against Jenison in the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame Classic tournament.
