R-P wrestlers

The Reeths-Puffer wrestling team opened its season in terrific fashion on Wednesday, beating Zeeland West 73-6 in an O-K Green conference dual match, and dominating host Grand Rapids West Catholic 59-15.

Eleven R-P wrestlers had victories in both matches - Brayden Chase, Jake Rozycki, Ian Cook, Kaden Malotke, Trevor Sabec, Owen Schab, Nathan Reeves, Sage Secrest, Omillion Wyrick, Caleb Zimmerman and Nathan Stafford.

R-P wrestler Nathan Reeves, who went 2-0 with a pair of pins on Wednesday.

“It's nice to start the league season off with a victory and get some real matches under our belts,” said R-P Coach Jared Fleming. “I’m looking forward to watching film and being able to work on some weaknesses and flaws that were exposed tonight.

“We have a long season in front of us, but it’s good to see some guys come up strong after working hard in the offseason. Nathan Reeves looked really great tonight wrestling up at 165. He had two pins on the night and is starting to really piece some things together for the future.

“I’m excited to watch our team continue to grow and find our identity.”
