R-P golfer Paige Anderson

Reeths-Puffer’s Paige Anderson posted her third tournament victory of the season on Thursday, tying for first place individually in the 18-team Montague Golf Invitational at Old Channel Trail Golf Course.

Anderson, who had three birdies, shot a 76 and tied for first with Ava Wisinski of Grand Rapids Christian.

“Paige continues to impress me with her mental toughness,” said R-P golf coach Matt Pallett. “Her ‘next shot’ mentality and her ability to make great shots gets her out of what could be tough situations.

The R-P girls golf team, which had its best 18-hole outing of the season on Thursday.

"She pushed a shot in the woods on number three today. It could have been an easy double bogey. Then she hit a great shot out and onto the green and just missed the long par putt."

The Rockets also had a very good day as a team, finishing 10th with a combined score of 413, their best 18-hole score of the season by 27 shots.

Rowan Bluhm shot a 100 for the Rockets. Abby Haak posted her best 18-hole round of the year with a 117, Avery Luna shot a 120 and Ella Klimsza finished at 134.

“I was impressed overall with how my girls bounced back from a not-so-great performance in our previous outing,” Pallett said. “Mental toughness is something I am really trying to stress.”

Pallett gave a special shout-out to Bluhm, who is coming back from a hand injury that kept her out of the lineup earlier in the season.

“I am so happy for Rowan Bluhm,” the coach said. “Although she has not shot what she is capable of, she continues to battle and show mental toughness. She hit some great shots today and it showed in her final score.”
