The Reeths-Puffer boys golf team landed three players in the top 10 standings at Monday's Greater Muskegon Athletic Association Tournament at Muskegon Country Club.

In a lot of years, that might have been enough to put the Rockets squarely in contention for the team championship. Mona Shores was soaring, however, taking the top three spots individually, placing four golfers in the top 10 and walking away with the title.

It was still a very good day for the Rockets.

Junior Kristian Brown finished fourth individually by shooting an 80 over 18 holes. He shot par on 12 different holes on the Country Club course.

Junior Kaeden Benner had his best day of the season so far, shooting an 82 and taking eighth place. Senior Aiden Waggoner shot an 83 and took ninth place.

All three Rockets earned medals for their efforts.

R-P took third place in the team standings with 341 points, behind Mona Shores (315) and Fruitport (339).

Ayden Hartzell shot a 96 for Reeths-Puffer while Jamie Neel shot a 98.

“The team was a little disappointed today," said R-P head coach Matt Pallett. "We were hoping to compete a little better with Mona Shores.

“It was great to see three guys earn medals. The conditions were very difficult today. I am proud of how the guys battled today.

“I am very happy for Kaeden Benner. This is his first year playing golf. He had a breakout day. Hopefully this is a springboard for the rest of the season.”

The Rockets will compete in their second O-K Green conference jamboree of the season on Wednesday at the country club.
