Two days after winning several close matches to beat rival Mona Shores, the Reeths-Puffer girls tennis team suffered the opposite fate on Wednesday against Caledonia in another O-K Green dual meet.
The Rockets lost four close matches that went the full three sets and ended up on the wrong end of a 6-2 score.
R-P collected its two wins in singles, and both of those matches were close, as well.
R-P's Hope Latsch
Hope Latsch (No. 2 singles) rallied to beat Caledonia's Audrey Duong 4-6, 6-2, 7-6. Molly Matz (No. 3 singles) also came from behind to beat Claire Teunessen 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Unfortunately the other close matches did not go R-P's way. The Rockets lost three-set matches at No. 4 singles, No. 1 doubles and No. 2 doubles.
R-P's Molly Matz
"It was just a marathon match, probably the longest dual match I can remember where almost every flight was up in the air," said R-P head coach Ryan Hankinson. "It was an incredible day for our two winners. They were the two best athletes we had on the court, just how they battled and swung matches that didn't necessarily look good at the beginning."
Reeths-Puffer is now 3-4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Rockets will play Grandville on Thursday in non-conference action.
