The Reeths-Puffer boys golf team is off to a slow start overall in the early part of the season, but junior Kristian Brown is already performing at midseason level.
Brown shot an even-par score of 36 and finished in first place individually at the first O-K Green Conference Jamboree of the season on Wednesday at Railside Golf Club in Byron Center.
Brown shot birdies on the first and sixth holes. He finished one shot ahead of Mona Shores' Cruz Beckstrom.
The rest of the Rockets are still lagging behind a bit. R-P shot a team score of 173 and finished in last place in the competition. Mona Shores took first place with a 155, followed by Byron Center (163), Caledonia (167), Jenison (168) and R-P.

Aiden Waggoner shot a 43 for the Rockets, followed by Jamie Neel (46), Kaeden Benner (48), Ayden Hartzell (49) and Kye Grant (50).
“It was great to see Kristian get off to a great start in league play," said R-P head coach Matt Pallett. "He has worked tremendously hard to put himself in a position to have a great year. He was disappointed in his first outing of the year, but he really showed how good of a player he has become tonight.
‘The team was disappointed in coming in last place tonight. I really feel this team has a lot of upside. We will work hard and I know we will surprise a lot of people on how much we improve this year.”
The Rockets will compete in the two-day Traverse City Invitational this weekend.
