It's only early April, and Mady Snyder is already ripping the ball for the Reeths-Puffer softball team.

The senior All-Stater hit a highlight home run on Tuesday, blasting the ball over a pine tree beyond the left field fence in the first inning, at an estimated 240 feet.

That homer, and a lot of other timely hits, helped the Rockets post a 16-5 victory over Zeeland East in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at R-P.

"That was the hardest and longest hit ball I've seen in a long time," said R-P head coach Sarah Bayle.

Snyder finished with three hits, including two singles. Lainey McDaniel also had three hits, including a triple, while Kyleigh Bilek and Abbie Critchett each had two hits.

Snyder pitched the win, striking out nine while scattering five hits and walking four.

The Rockets completed the doubleheader sweep with an 11-7 victory in Game 2.

R-P totaled 14 hits in the game. Tessa Ross had four singles while Brook Buchan had two hits, three RBI and two stolen bases.

McDaniel pitched the win, striking out 10 while allowing 10 hits.

“These girls battled through some very cold weather, played anywhere they were needed, they were aggressive at the plate and on the base path, and had each other's backs through and through,” Coach Bayle said.

The Rockets, now 3-0 on the season, will return to action on April 15 against Grand Haven.
