Reeths-Puffer senior wrestler Ian Cook improved his record to a perfect 45-0 and won the championship in his weight class at Saturday's Division 1 individual district tournament at Rockford High School.
Cook was dominant all day, easily winning all three of his matches in the 144-pound weight class.
He defeated Grand Haven's Zander Eskildsen by technical fall, 16-1, in the first round; pinned Muskegon's Ke'Yaun Bradford in the semifinals; then defeated Grandville's Tristen Dood by major decision, 11-0, in the finals.
Cook was one of six R-P wrestlers to finish in the top four of their weight classes and qualify for regionals.
Sage Secrest (215 pounds) posted a 3-1 record on the day and took second in his weight class. He improved his personal record to 37-7.
R-P's Ian Cook, who won a district title and improved his season record to 45-0.
Max Knowlton (106) posted a 3-1 mark and finished in third place in his weight class. He is now 36-8 on the season.
Tanner Cowles (132) went 3-1 and also finished in third place in his weight class. Cowles is 34-14 on the season.
Travis Henderson (113) went 2-2 and finished fourth in his weight class. He has a 35-10 record.
Devin Welch (285) also went 2-2 and finished fourth. He is 26-14 on the year.
In girls competition, R-P's Sidney Shakelford posted a 4-1 record and finished in third in the 155-pound weight class. Shakelford has an overall 22-9 record.
All six Rocket boys will compete in next Saturday's Division 1 individual regional tournament at Portage Northern High School, with a chance to qualify for the state finals. Shakelford will compete in a girls regional tournament at Cadillac.
