The Reeths-Puffer boys basketball team has had its share of good efforts against quality opponents lately, but eventually a team just needs to win a few games again.

The Rockets got a start on that on Monday night, using a very strong second quarter to beat Muskegon Heights 62-51 in a non-conference clash at R-P's Dan Beckeman Arena.

R-P had lost six of its previous seven games, including several close ones against quality teams like Traverse City West and Mona Shores. The Rockets also gave powerful Muskegon a fight for three quarters last Friday.

The victory improved the Rockets' record to 4-10 on the season.

Reeths-Puffer jumped out to a 19-11 lead after one quarter, then had a big 16-4 edge in the second quarter and led 35-15 at halftime.

R-P's Kristian Brown (34), who chipped in 12 points on Monday.

The Rockets led 53-34 after three quarters, then coasted to the victory in the fourth.

Brayden Mitchelson had a big night, scoring 22 points with five rebounds and three assists for R-P.

Kristian Brown added 12 points and Elliot Schneider contributed eight points and three rebounds.

R-P Coach JR Wallace credited Kamarion Davis for coming off the bench, hitting two triples and playing strong defense.

"I am very happy with tonight's bounce-back win," Wallace said. "Everyone was able to enter the game and contribute in some way."

The Rockets will visit Caledonia on Friday.
