Eli Cuti scored a dramatic goal with four seconds left on the clock on Saturday, giving the soaring Reeths-Puffer hockey team yet another victory, 4-3 over Caledonia at Muskegon's Trinity Health Arena.
The Rockets have now won seven of their last eight games. The other outcome in that span was a very respectable tie on Friday with defending state champion Byron Center.
Caledonia scored the first goal, midway through the first period, then R-P's Trenton Hanks tied the score 1-1 with a goal with 21 seconds left on the clock.
R-P's Ayden Hartzell scored just 1:41 into the second period, then the Fighting Scots tied things up at 2-2 with a goal about five minutes later.
Hartzell scored a short-handed goal in the third period to give R-P the edge, then Caledonia tied the game at 3-3 with 5:49 remaining.
R-P's Eli Cuti, who scored the game-winning goal with four seconds left.
That led to Cuti's dramatic goal, in the midst of a scramble in front of the net, that won the game for R-P just seconds before it went to overtime.
"What a game!" said R-P head coach Dustin Langlois. "Back and forth the whole time, and our guys just kept digging! We had a little bit of a slow start, but we knew we were going to be tired after playing Byron Center Friday night. These guys fought through it and found a way to come up with a win.
"We will enjoy the win, but we have to get back to work on Monday to prepare for our next one."
Huck VanDyke got the win in goal for the Rockets. Hayden Taylor had two assists while Bucky Aney, Connor Anderson, Tyler Cuti and Kaeden Benner each had one.
Reeths-Puffer will hit the ice again on Wednesday at home with a Fischer Division showdown against first-place Grandville in a makeup game.
