The Reeths-Puffer competitive cheer team turned in another great performance on Saturday, finishing fourth out of 17 teams at the Lake Michigan Competitive Cheer Officials Association meet at Byron Center High School.

The Rockets finished with 721.46 points, finishing behind first-place Plainwell (748.88), Zeeland West (740.80) and Grand Rapids Northview (724.84).

R-P had a 228.60 score in Round 1 (execution), 200.96 in Round 2 (overall skills) and 291.90 in Round 3 (stunts).

Despite the Rockets' exceptional finish, R-P head coach Lisabeth Smith said their scores were a little down from the previous week in the second and third rounds, which pushed them down in the final standings a bit.

"That Round 2 kept us out of that top spot headed into Round 3," Smith said. "We scored 15 points higher a week ago, and that round is much better now. Our Round 3 was strong, but also fell a few points short of our previous week's score."

Smith credited senior Lorena Garcia and junior Madilynn Smith for making last-minute tumbling adjustments, enabling the Rockets to score bonus points.

"I applaud the entire team for working through illnesses and showing up to represent Reeths-Puffer so beautifully," the coach said. "We have plenty of work to do, and we're grateful and excited to have a couple of weeks before the postseason."
