The Reeths-Puffer boys bowling team had a very good day at Saturday's Zeeland Baker Invitational at the Station 300 bowling center.

The Rockets finished in third place out of 16 teams in the preliminary competition, then advanced to the final four round in the playoffs.

It was the best finish for the R-P boys in a tournament in several years.

The unique competition involved the high school teams playing each other in single-throw baker games. Reeths-Puffer won 7 of 10 matchups against other teams, ended up with a total pinfall of 1,837, earned 1,540 bonus points and qualified for the championship playoffs.

The Rockets defeated Ludington in the first round of the playoffs, 314-285, and beat Grand Haven in the quarterfinals 328-316.

The day ended for R-P with a 367-316 loss to Zeeland in the semifinals.

"I'm so proud of the way these boys bowled today," said R-P Coach Craig Alderink."These were our best baker scores of the year. I can't wait to see how they bowl in the coming weeks."

The Rockets will resume on Wednesday with an O-K Green conference match against Muskegon.
