The Reeths-Puffer boys bowling team seems to be at its best in close matches that could go either way.
That was true in the Rockets' first two conference matches of the season, when they beat Caledonia 18.5-11.5 and Mona Shores 17-13, and it happened again on Monday when they overcame a slow start to down Byron Center 19-11 at Spectrum Lanes in Grand Rapids.
Reeths-Puffer is now 3-0 in the O-K Green conference standings.
The Rockets started out really slowly against Byron Center, losing the first baker round 160-139. But they rebounded in the second round, winning 182-145 to earn four points, plus two bonus points for having the higher pin total in the two rounds combined.
R-P's Ryleigh Beebe
R-P lost the first regular game 862-859, but collected two points with individual victories by Carter Hekkema and Ryleigh Beebe. Hekkema had the team's high score with a 197 game.
The Rockets roared back and won the match with a great second regular game, piling up nine team points.
They won the game 919-767 and earned four points. They also swept all five individual games, and five more team points, with victories by Hekkema, Beebe, Peyton Estepp, Liam Copenhaver and Quinn Alderink.
Beebe had the high score in Game 2 with a 220 while Alderink had a 212.
The big second game score allowed the Rockets to capture the two bonus points for total pins in the combined regular games.
"After a slow start in the first baker game, our boys put up some very nice scores for the rest of the day," said R-P Coach Craig Alderink. "I love that we are getting contributions from all of our bowlers. Congrats to Ryleigh for winning both of his matches and rolling a nice 220 game."
