Two out of three isn’t bad at all, particularly for a very young team that was winless a week ago.
The Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team claimed its second victory of the week on Friday night, rolling past Grand Raver Prep at home, 58-20.
The Rockets, who lost their first five games of the season, broke through and got their first win on Monday by beating Sparta. They fell short against Grand Rapids Christian on Thursday night, but got right back up and earned their second victory a night later.
R-P took control right away, outscoring GR Prep 16-0 in the first quarter.
Trinity Moore: 10 points, 6 rebounds
The Rockets had a 15-8 edge in the second quarter and led 31-8 at halftime. They continued their dominance in the second half with a 27-12 advantage.
“What a great week it has been for the Lady Rockets, winning two out of three games, especially considering we played back-to-back on Thursday and Friday,” said R-P head coach Rodney Walker, whose inexperienced team has numerous freshmen and sophomores playing key roles.
“It’s clear that we are improving and figuring out our roles to help achieve our team goals. Our focus on playing hard defensively and competing on both ends of the floor has created opportunities to win games.
“Several players have stepped up to contribute offensively, and moving forward, we will need to limit turnovers and consistently make free throws down the stretch. With continued dedication, I believe we are ready to compete at a high level once conference play begins after the Christmas break.”
Freshman Raquel Walker led the Rockets with 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Freshman Trinity Moore added 10 points and six rebounds while sophomore Ashlyn David had 10 points and three rebounds.
R-P, now 2-6, will return to action on Jan. 3 at home against Caledonia..
