The good news is that the Reeths-Puffer girls basketball team displayed a more diverse offense on Thursday.
Sophomore post player Ashlyn David scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a road game at Grand Rapids Christian. It was only the second time this season that a player besides Raquel Walker - a very promising freshman guard - led R-P in scoring.
Unfortunately the extra offense was not enough to overcome a slow start, and the Rockets lost 58-50 in non-conference action.
Reeths-Puffer came out slow and trailed 17-7 after one quarter.

The Rockets played even the rest of the way. Each team scored 15 points in the second quarter, GRC had a 15-14 edge in the third and R-P had a 14-11 advantage in the fourth.
“We played a really good, competitive game,” said R-P head coach Rodney Walker. “We started really slow and had to play from behind the entire game. I thought we did a good job offensively, slowing down and getting the ball inside for post play.”
Raquel Walker had another good game, totaling 13 points, four rebounds and six steals. Grace Tindall had seven points and six rebounds.
The Rockets, now 1-6, will play their second game in two nights when they host Grand River Prep on Friday.
