The Reeths-Puffer boys basketball team is yet to win a game this season, but the Rockets are sure getting closer.

On Friday they battled into overtime before falling to a good Grand Haven squad by five points.

On Tuesday, R-P fell behind 16-1 at the start of a road game against Traverse City Central, and it looked like it would be a sure blowout, but the Rockets roared back and made a game of it.

They had a great second quarter and actually led at halftime. That didn’t stick, however, and they ended up falling 75-67.

Marvin Moore, 24 points

The way the team responded to the disastrous start was encouraging for first-year R-P head coach JR Wallace.

“Our guys showed resilience and pulled it together and clawed back,” Wallace said. “I was relieved that my team showed up, because being down 16-1 was not us.”

R-P started to recover in the first quarter and trailed 26-15 at the first buzzer.

Then the Rockets really came to life, outscoring the Trojans 24-7 in the second quarter to take a 39-33 lead into halftime.

Marvin Moore paced R-P in the second quarter with 12 points.
