Of course Reeths-Puffer has separate boys and girls bowling teams, but that wasn’t the case on Saturday.

Both R-P teams competed in the unique Forest Hills Baker Doubles Tournament at Northfield Lanes. There were 28 two-player teams competing, and the teams could be made up of two boys, two girls, or one of each.

The Rockets had five boy-girl teams enter the competition and several did quit well.

Hailey Johnsen and Carter Hekkema, who finished fifth in the tournament

The team of Carter Hekkema and Hailey Johnsen finished fifth, Quinn Alderink and Brook Buchan took eighth, Tanner Bahr and Ryleigh Beebe were ninth and Liam Copenhaver and Rowan Bluhm finished 10th.

Hekkema and Johnsen and Alderink and Buchan qualified for the tournament playoffs, but both teams lost in the first round.

“Even though some of our bowlers didn't bowl their best, it was a fun day,” said R-P boys coach Craig Alderink. “This was the first time we got to mix boys and girls in a competitive environment and I think the results were quite positive. It was a great way to build some camaraderie between the teams and I hope it continues throughout the season.

“It was awesome to see two of our pairings qualify for the playoffs and four pairings finish in the top 10.”
