It’s been two tournaments and two championships so far this season for Reeths-Puffer senior wrestler Ian Cook.
Cook posted a 5-0 record and won the 144-pound title on Saturday at the Gull Lake Invitational.
Cook was never really challenged in any of his matches
Ian Cook
He beat Otsego’s Jialion Herbert 19-3, St. Joseph’s Landen Ellis 15-0, Martin’s Seth Toris by pin, St. Joseph’s Mitch Culver 15-0 and Fruitport’s Davis Johnson 16-2 in the championship round.
Cook improved his record to 11-0 on the season.
While Cook was R-P’s only champion at the tournament, a lot of his teammates did very well, helping the Rockets finish fourth out of 23 teams.
Andrew Corradin
Taking second place in their weight classes were Andrew Corradin (175 pounds) and Sage Secrest (215).
Finishing third were Devin Welch (285), Micah Mills (106) and Travis Henderson (113).
Taking fifth place were Max Knowlton (106), Tanner Cowles (132) and Aiden Neal (165).
Sage Secrest
Hunter Eek finished in sixth place at 150 pounds and Bryce Muskegon was eighth at 157.
“The varsity was led in dominant fashion by Ian Cook putting on a clinic in every match,” said R-P head coach Brad Cowles. “Andrew Corradin and Sage Secrest wrestled their way to the finals but fell short.”
The Rockets will open their conference season with a dual match at home against Caledonia on Wednesday.
