Success in the two Baker games gave the Reeths-Puffer girls bowling team the edge it needed to pull out an 18-12 victory over Hudsonville on Wednesday.

The Rockets won the first Baker game 185-164 to earn four points. They won the second game 151-123 to earn four more points, and also got the two bonus points for most pins in the combined Baker rounds.

Baker games are the first two rounds of a high school match, when all of the bowlers on a team throw one frame and have their scores combined. They are unlike the two regular games, when bowlers from each team go head-to-head for team points.

The 10 Baker points provided R-P with more than half of its point total in the match, and secured the victory.

“The success of the Bakers comes with each member picking up their spares or throwing strikes,” said R-P Coach Karla Buchan. “This win for the R-P girls is a prime example of how important the team as a whole is to the success of our season.”

R-P did not fare as well in the first regular game, winning only two of the five head-to-head matches, The Rockets did win the total pin count in the game, however, earning four crucial points.
