The Reeths-Puffer volleyball team, still struggling with injuries, found some success on Saturday and reached the double-digit win mark at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association Tournament at Dan Beckeman Arena on the R-P campus..

The highlight of the day for the Rockets came in their third and final match, when they beat Oakridge in three tough sets.

R-P won the first set 25-19, lost the second 22-25, then fought hard to prevail in the tiebreaker, 15-13.

It was the 10th victory of the season for Reeths-Puffer, which only had seven wins a year ago.

“Against Oakridge, we settled in,” said R-P head coach Justin Birr. “Our players, and our fans, had more fun, which helped us play more relaxed. With our current injuries, I am proud of the fight our entire team showed. All 14 girls contributed in some way.”

R-P did not have as much luck in its first two matches of the day, falling to Western Michigan Christian 23-25, 13-25 and Whitehall 15-25, 25-17, 9-15.

Alissa Klopp had 20 kills in the tournament for the Rockets while Makayla Disselkoen added 14. Maddy Dyer recorded 15 assists and served six aces.

Defensively, Carlee Bowen had 32 digs and Dyer had 15. Dissekloen had seven blocks.

The Rockets, now 10-19 on the season, will visit Byron Center on Tuesday in an O-K Sliver conference match.
