The Reeths-Puffer boys soccer team scored a goal on Thursday night, which was more than the Rockets had managed in the previous three games.

Unfortunately, R-P’s midseason losing streak is still intact following a 4-1 road loss to Caledonia in O-K Green conference play.

The loss was R-P’s fourth in a row after starting the season with a 6-2-1 record. The Rockets are now 6-6-1 overall and 4-2 in the O-K Green standings.

Caledonia scored two goals following corner kicks and another on a penalty kick.

R-P's Cohen Beck, who broke his team's goal-scoring drought.

The Fighting Scots took a 2-0 lead into halftime, then R-P got its first goal in four games when Cohen Beck found the mark in the second half, with an assist from Zac Sampson.

Caledonia answered with two more goals, however, to put the game away.

“It’s times like these when you really feel bad for the boys,” said R-P head coach Kody Harrell. “We love them so much. We see them more than we see our families for parts of the season.

“We’re losing to very good teams – Hudsonville, Fruitport, West Ottawa, and Caledonia tonight. All are very skilled teams, but we are really used to beating good teams, too. We’ve always been in the mix, but just like winning, losing can be contagious, too.

“We all need to dig deep. Nobody said it was going to be easy.”

The Rockets were outshot 9-4. They will return to action on Saturday at home with a non-conference game against Grandville at 11:30 a.m.
