One of these days, the shots are going to start pouring into the goal for the Reeths-Puffer soccer team, like they did earlier in the season.

At the moment, however, they just aren’t finding the mark.

The Rockets suffered their third straight shutout loss on Tuesday in a very frustrating 1-0 loss to Holland West Ottawa in a non-conference matchup.

On Saturday the Rockets fell 2-0 to Fruitport, and before that they lost 1-0 to Hudsonville.

R-P goalie Gavin Wright, who made several strong saves in the tight loss.

Reeths-Puffer is now 6-5-1 on the season.

“We had a really solid showing last night,” said R-P Coach Kody Harrell. “We looked fast, we looked quick, the decision making was awesome – we just couldn’t finish.”

The score was tied 0-0 for most of the game before Hudsonville found the net with about two minutes remaining.

The Rockets had a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Kaden Vanderlaan, who again played a strong defensive game for R-P.

“We missed a few breakaways,” Harrell said. “We had several opportunities in the box and would either get our shots blocked by defenders or their keeper made a few really nice saves.

“The boys played hard. We just need to fine tune some little details and get back to being confident with our shooting.”

Harrell credited Andrew Eilers and Kaden Vanderlaan for their defensive efforts and goalie Gavin Wright for making a few big saves.

He also credited Said Abunayla, Ian Wright and Carson McCollum for strong play in the midfield.

Reeths-Puffer will visit Caledonia on Thursday in an O-K Green conference game.
