After trending upward in recent weeks, the Reeths-Puffer girls golf team plateaued a bit on Tuesday, finishing fourth out of five teams at the third O-K Green conference jamboree of the season, played at Saskatoon Golf Club.
The Rockets shot a season-worst team score of 198. They finished two shots ahead of Jenison. Caledonia won the event with a 164.
The positive news was that R-P’s two top golfers kept up their successful pace.
Rowan Bluhm
Senior Rowan Bluhm and sophomore Sophia McCollom both shot a 43 and tied for fifth place in the individual standings.
“Sophia and Rowan continue to play well in the league,” said R-P Coach Matt Pallett. “They were both All-Conference last year and are putting themselves on pace to be All-Conference in the new league this year, as well.”
Rounding out the top Rocket scores were Olivia Ambler (53), Ella Voorhies (59) and Emma Dvorak (61), who collected the first birdie of her career.
Sophia McCollum
A new player, freshman Madigan Pitcher, made her varsity debut and shot a 61 for R-P.
“Success does not always come easy,” Pallett said. “Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a couple steps forward. Today was one of those days for the team. I am looking forward to seeing how they bounce back from not one of our best days.”
The Rockets will compete in the O-K Conference Midseason Tournament on Thursday at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.
