Reeths-Puffer sophomore golfer Sophia McCollum had a brilliant outing on the second day of the Lober Classic tournament at Crystal Mountain on Wednesday.

McCollum shot a score of 78 on the Mountain Ridge Course, which put her in fourth place for the day out of 124 golfers from 24 schools.

She shot a 93 on Tuesday on the Betsie Valley Course, for a total tournament score of 171. That put her in 13th place at the very difficult tournament, just one spot away from winning a medal.

McCollom’s performance helped the R-P girls finish a very respectable 13th place out of the 24 teams with a two-day score of 797.

R-P senior Rowan Bluhm shot a two-day score of 177, which was 35 shots better than her score at the same tournament last year.

Sophomore Olivia Ambler was third for the Rockets with a 207,  Ella Voorhies was fourth with a 242 while Emma Dvorak shot a 285.

R-P Coach Matt Pallett noted that the tournament had a “loaded field” with many returning All-State players from different schools, and was pleased with how the Rockets held up.

“I enjoy participating in this tournament," Pallett said. "We played wo tough courses that really challenge our mental game. Each girl had to battle through some adversity over the two days. I am pleased with how the girls played and how they handled their adversity. This tournament will make us better.

“I am happy for Sophia. She played well her first round of the year and then had to fight through not playing as well her next two rounds. She had a great round on the Mountain Ridge Course on day two.

“It is amazing to see how much lower Rowan and Sophia’s scores were in just one year. They have and continue to work hard to improve their games.”
