Reeths-Puffer’s two top golfers got off to a great start to the season on Friday at the Sydney Carfine Memorial Tournament at The Meadows in Allendale.

Sophomore Sophia McCollum shot a great round of 74 and finished in third place individually.

Senior Rowan Bluhm shot an 82, which was 12 strokes better than her score in the tournament a year ago, and finished in 10th place.

Both McCollum and Bluhm earned medals and “All Tournament” honors for their efforts.

“I am really happy for Sophia and Rowan,” said R-P Coach Matt Pallett. “Both are incredible young ladies who have put in the time this summer to improve. There is no mistake why they played well. They have worked hard to put themselves in the position to win medals.

“I am really counting on Rowan and Sophia to lead the way this year. Their mental toughness and not letting a couple of bad holes derail their round really showed me the leaders that I have on this team”.

As a team, the Rockets shot a 389 and finished in 12th place out of 18 teams.

Sophomore Olivia Ambler shot a 108 for the Rockets while playing her first round at The Meadows.

Sophomore Ella Vorrhies shot a 127 and senior Emma Dvorak shot a 140. Both were playing the first varsity matches of their careers.

“Olivia, Ella and Emma all showed a lot of perseverance today as well,” Pallett said. “We will see all three of them improve a lot this year. I am looking forward to seeing where this team ends up this year.”

The Rockets will return to action on Monday in the first O-K Green conference jamboree of the season.
