The Reeths-Puffer girls soccer team broke out of a funk on Thursday with a big 7-0 victory over Holland in the first round of the O-K Green conference tournament.

Six different Rockets scored in the game, led by Jaslynn Kops with two goals, in the Senior Night victory.

The impressive win followed four tough losses for the Rockets against Zeeland West last week, Salem and Berkeley in two Saturday games, and Spring Lake on Wednesday.fw2

The Rockets led 2-0 at halftime following goals by Ava McDaniel and Morgan Rekney.

They opened things up in the second half with two goals from Kops and single goals by Abby Hill, Irelyn Niklasch and Ella Simbieda.

Niklasch had three assists while Kops, Alissa Klopp, Grace Goodell and Mallorie Messer each had one.

“We came out tonight and really focused on the things we want to do really well,” said R-P Coach Kody Harrell.”Everything we do, the way we train, how we talk to one another, how we play in these last few games of the season is all about being ready for that first round district game.

“Wednesday (against Spring Lake) was a step backward, but tonight we took two steps forward, and I feel good about what we can accomplish over these last couple weeks of the season. These girls make me love the game more and more every week, their determination is inspiring and they deserve a strong finish to the season.

“We have done a ton of growing, plus we are pretty talented too. It's just about being consistent with our little details.”

The Rockets are now 7-8-2 on the season. They will visit Zeeland West next Tuesday in the second round of the conference tournament.
