The Reeths-Puffer girls tennis team will head into Saturday’s Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Meet with some momentum after completing their best match of the season so far on Wednesday.
The Rockets dismantled a good Zeeland West squad 7-1. They won three of four singles matches by straight sets and all four doubles matches, including two that were comeback victories.
Winning singles matches for R-P were Brooke Titus (No. 1). Olvia Harris (No. 2) and Mylie Neel (No. 4). Titus had to battle ZW’s Emily Haskill for a 7-5 win in the first set before cruising to a 6-2 victory in the second.
Hope Latsch and Olivia Smith lost the first set of their No. 1 doubles match 6-4, but rallied to win the next two, 6-1, 6-3.
Emma Fraser (right) and Lauren Matz, who posted a 2-0 record in doubles this week.
Emma Fraser and Lauren Matz followed the same path to a comeback win at No. 2 doubles.
Malania Eilers and Gabrielle Borgeson (No. 3 doubles) and Ava Dietz and Laura Tejedor (No. doubles) won their matches in straight sets.
“The team put together their most complete match of the season,” said R-P Coach Ryan Hankinson about the victory. “Now we will try to do the same in a tournament setting on Saturday at city.”
The Rockets did not fare so well on Monday, falling to Zeeland East 5-3 in a tight match.
R-P split the four singles matches, with Titus and Harris winning in the top two flights. The difference came in doubles, where ZE took three of four matches.
Fraser and Matz were the only doubles winners for the Rockets.
