Reeths-Puffer's Abby Hill continued her hot scoring trend on Saturday, putting what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the net with about 12 minutes remaining to give the R-P girls soccer team an exciting 2-1 victory over Grandville in non-conference action.

The Rockets gained the victory despite being outshot 11-7.

R-P led 1-0 at halftime following a goal by Irelyn Niklasch.

Hill took a pass from Jaslynn Kops and scored the game-winner. Hill also scored a three-goal hat trick in a victory last week.hgt423

Grandville managed one late goal but could get no closer.

R-P Coach Kody Harrell thought the victory showed a lot about his team’s progress, since Grandville beat East Grand Rapids and tied Byron Center earlier this season. The Rockets lost to both of those teams in the opening weeks.

The Rockets, now 6-1-1 in their last eight games, will host Zeeland West in a key O-K Green conference matchup on Tuesday.

“This just shows how hungry this team is and how far we have come,” Harrell said. “The girls are playing with more confidence. They are really starting to get the details and they have a great energy about them.

“I’m really happy for these girls. I hope they know how big of a win this was for them, and how they are good enough to compete with the area’s best.”
