The Reeths-Puffer girls tennis team had a very strong showing at Saturday’s Jenison Invitational, tying for second place in a strong field of opponents.

Grand Rapids South Christian won the event with 17 team points, followed by R-P and Mona Shores with 10 points and Jenison with five points.

The Rockets played all of their matches against Jenison and GR South Christian players. They won seven of nine matches against Jenison and three of eight against a very good South Christian squad.

Two Rockets went undefeated on the day – Brooke Titus (No. 1 singles) and Mylie Neel (No. 4 singles).

Titus defeated Jenison’s Addie Cuminga 6-4, 6-2 and South Christian’s Gabby Young 6-0, 6-0.

Neel rallied to defeat Jenison’s Erin Eriks 3-6, 6-3 and 1-0 in a tiebreaker, then beat South Christian’s Audi Burgess 6-2, 6-4.

Olivia Harris (No. 2 singles), Molly Matz (No. 3 singles), Hope Latsch and Oliva Smith (No. 1 doubles), Emma Fraser and Lauren Matz (No. 2 doubles) and Kaitlyn Darow and Laura Tejedor (No. 4 doubles) all posted 1-1 records.

"I am so excited for the players regarding the growth and improvement each has made this season so far, either physically, strategically, and or mentallly regarding their confidence, as we look ahead and wind down over these final 3 weeks," said R-P head coach Ryan Hankinson.

The Rockets will have a very busy week coming up, playing Zeeland East and Zeeland West in conference dual matches, then competing in the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Tournament next Saturday at Mona Shores.
