The Reeths-Puffer softball team knows how to win in different ways.
The Rockets’ first seven victories of the season were relatively short and easy, via the 10-run mercy rule.
On Thursday, however, they went on the road to play a good Northview team and had to work a bit harder.
The result was the same, though, with R-P sweeping the non-conference doubleheader 3-1 and 9-0.
R-P's Lainey McDaniel
R-P improved to 9-0-1 on the season.
Pitcher Lainey McDaniel was great in Game 1, pitching a complete-game one-hitter with one walk and nine strikeouts.
McDaniel and Kaylee Jones each had two hits for R-P, Abbie Critchett knocked in three runs and Jones had three stolen bases.
The second win was a bit easier for the Rockets.
R-P's Mady Snyder
Mady Snyder pitched the complete-game shutout, scattering six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
McDaniel had two doubles and drove in four runs. Jones had a single and a triple and Natalie Kunnen hit a triple.
“We may not have had as many hits as in previous games, but we were scrappy,” said R-P head coach Sarah Bayle. “We capitalized when we had runners on base with bunts, sac flies and putting the ball in play hard to move runners around. Northview has a great team and we pushed hard for those runs.
“We also played very clean on defense with great throws to get runners out trying to advance and making the plays we needed to make in order to keep runners from scoring. I am beyond proud of this entire team and what they’re able to do. This team is something special.”
