The Reeths-Puffer wrestling team is headed into a very big week, and it’s happy to have freshman Lyric Stewart on board and starting to wrestle well.

Stewart, an emerging contributor at 165 and 175 pounds, posted a 4-1 record on Saturday, helping the Rockets post a 3-2 record against some tough teams in a dual match tournament at Shelby.

Reeths-Puffer went 3-0 in pool matchups, beating Mason County Central 64-3, Grant 62-18 and Sparta 46-27.

Arin Maynard, one of three Rockets to go 5-0 on Saturday.

The Rockets lost twice in the championship round, falling to Cedar Springs 42-27 and Hart 37-28.

Arin Maynard (106 pounds), Jake Rozycki (120) and Ian Cook (132) all posted 5-0 records for the Rockets.

“Our guys wrestled so well,” said R-P Coach Jared Fleming. “We’re continuing to learn what it means to fight for your team and not just yourself. Huge day and super proud of freshman Lyric Stewart going 4-1 and finding a way into the starting lineup.”

R-P will host its final conference dual match of the season on Wednesday before competing in Saturday’s O-K Green conference tournament, with the league championship likely on the line.
