The Reeths-Puffer hockey team is blessed with a lot of scorers – and now another sniper has joined the club.

Senior Dewey Modaff, a fourth-year varsity player, scored his first two goals of the season on Thursday and Friday, helping the Rockets get a pair of wins at the Michigan Public High School Chelsea Showcase at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea.

Dewey scored the first goal of the night in R-P’s 3-1 victory over Tawas on Thursday.

His tally gave the Rockets a 1-0 lead after the first period. Croix Klint scored in the second period and R-P led 2-0 heading into the third.

Dexter scored with 2:25 left in the game to make things close, but R-P’s Connor Stawski answered with a goal with 17 seconds left to wrap up the victory.

R-P had a big 51-9 advantage in shots on goal. Huck VanDyke got the win in goal.

"We played well, they just had a hot goalie,” said R-P Coach Dustin Langlois. ”He kept them in the game for sure. We had a lot of shots, we were just taking them from far out and not getting any guys in front of their net. We did a really good job of keeping them out of our end. We played great defensively."

The Rockets rolled to an 8-0 victory over Dexter on Friday. The game was called after two periods due to the mercy rule.

R-P collected four goals in the first period – including the first one just seven seconds into the game - from Jaxon Stone, Ayden Hartzell, Stawski and Modaff. Four more came in the second period, including two by Tyler Tindall and single tallies from Eli Cuti and Stone.

R-P had a 32-8 advantage in shots. Mark Stewart got the shutout in goal.

"We have been pounding teams with shots!” Langlois said. “This was the better team that we faced this weekend - the difference was our guys crashing the net and being relentless in front of it. We also have been doing a great job defensively by not letting teams have any time in our zone with the puck. If it does go in, they might get a shot, but then it’s going right back the other way.

“We focused on puck patience and possession in practice this past week and it has clearly made a difference.”

Reeths-Puffer, now 12-7 on the season, has won four games in a row and six out of its last seven.
