Four Reeths-Puffer wrestlers won individual weight class championships at Saturday’s Greater Muskegon Athletic Association City Tournament at Muskegon High School.

The Rockets also had a good day as a team, finishing second in the final standings. R-P accumulated 142 points, behind only to champion Whitehall in the 12-team event.

Individual champions for the Rockets were Jake Rozycki (120 pounds), Ian Cook (132), Nathan Reeves (157) and Sage Secrest (190).

Rozycki, who won his second city title, pinned Bowen Fautz of Ravenna in the quarterfinals and Melvion Carter of Oakridge in the semifinals, then defeated Max Krukowski of Whitehall in the finals.

Cook, who won his third city title, pinned North Muskegon’s Emerson Buikema and defeated Mona Shores’ Anthony Cage before pinning Whitehall’s Caden Varela in the finals.

Reeves pinned Mona Shores’ Max Silva and Muskegon’s Ja’MierJefferson before beating Whitehall’s Blake English in the finals.

Secrest registered three pins, over Mona Shores’ Jordan Mackey in the quarterfinals, Whitehall’s Trenton Tenbrock in the semifinals, then Orchard View’s Jaxon Tuttle in the finals.

Three Rockets – Nathan Stafford (285), Arin Maynard (106) and Cory Judd (126) – finished third in their respective weight classes and won medals.

R-P Coach Jared Fleming was particularly excited for Reeves and Secrest, who both won their first city championships.

“It was very awesome to see Nathan Reeves step up and wrestle the best we’ve seen him all year,” Fleming said. “He looked very solid and had a great championship match. It’s nice to see all of his work pay off and see him get some recognition for it.

“Also, great day by Sage Secrest, earning three pins on his way to a city championship. He wrestled really tough opponents and was able to pin all of them. He’s been a really solid wrestler for us all year, so it is cool to see him take first.”
