The Reeths-Puffer wrestling team had a very good day at the Scottville Optimist Invitational at Mason County Central High School on Saturday, posting a 4-1 record in a series of team dual matches.
The Rockets opened the day with a 39-30 loss to Benzie Central, a state-ranked squad. They went on to beat Ludington 70-10, Mason County Central 57-22, Shelby 54-28 and Allendale 72-12.
Ian Cook
Five R-P wrestlers posted perfect 5-0 records on the day – Jake Rozycki (126-132 pounds), Ian Cook (128), Nathan Reeves (165), Sage Secrest (190) and Nathan Stafford (heavyweight).
Going 4-1 for the Rockets were Arin Maynard (105), Mason Goodno (120), Cory Judd (125/132), Andrew Corradin (150-157) and Nathan Straley (215).
Jake Rozycki
“We're proud of all that our guys showed up and did in our first weekend meet of the year,” said R-P Coach Jared Fleming. “It's always nice to walk away with some wins and be successful.
“It's great to see Stafford in his first meet of the year dominate at heavyweight. He had four first-period pins on the day. Ian and Jake looked great against some of the opponents’ best and some new-to-the-lineup guys like Arin Maynard, Mason Goodno, and Nathan Straley are doing great.
Sage Secrest
“The biggest victory of the day went to Sage Secrest, though. He is really coming into his own there at 190 and we're so excited to continue to see his growth.”
The Rockets will have a very important O-K Green conference dual match on Wednesday on the road against Holland.
