Reeths-Puffer wrestler Ian Cook opened the new season on a special note on Wednesday.
Cook, a two-time All-Stater, won his first match of the night against Grand Rapids Union and reached the 100-victory career mark in the process.
“He achieved this as a junior, which is a monumental accomplishment and something only the best of the best get to do,” R-P Coach Jared Fleming said about Cook. “It’s not surprising for a two-time All-State wrestler, but nonetheless noteworthy.”
As a team, the Rockets had mixed luck on their opening night, beating Union 62-18 in an O-K Green conference match, then falling to Allendale 44-21 in a non-conference match.

Cook (138 pounds), Nathan Straley (215), Sage Secrest (190), Arin Maynard (106) and Hunter Eek (144) all won two matches for the Rockets.
“Our guys looked good for the first dual of the year,” Fleming said. “We definitely have a lot of things to work on still, and this group has a long way to go, but we’re looking forward to a great season.
“Allendale is a perennially tough team and our guys wrestled some close matches in both our win and our loss," Fleming said. "We have our eyes fixed on Holland next week in a huge early season O-K Green conference matchup. We can’t wait for next Wednesday.”
The Rockets will wrestle numerous teams in a round robin dual tournament at Mason County Central on Saturday.
