Paige Anderson

To nobody’s surprise, Reeths-Puffer’s Paige Anderson played the best golf of her career on the final day of her career.

Anderson, a returning All-Stater who won city, conference and regional titles this season, had a rough first round on Friday at the Division 2 state finals. She had trouble with her putts, shot an 80 and was in 13th place after the first day of the 36-hole tournament.

But she bounced back in a big way on Saturday, shooting a scorching four-under-par 68 and finishing in third place in the finals at Forest Akers East Golf Course at Michigan State University.

It was the best 18-hole round of Anderson’s high school career, which had no shortage of great rounds.

Anderson had six birdies on her final day, including one on her final hole to move into third place on her own.

She finished with an overall score of 148, and trailed only Coopersville’s Lauren Davis, who won the state championship with a 140, and Dexter’s Avery Manning, who was second with a 144.

Anderson earned a medal for her performance and is expected to be named an All-Stater for the second year in a row.

She finished the season with seven individual tournament titles, including six in a row leading up to the state finals.

“We are extremely proud of Paige and all of her accomplishments,” said R-P Coach Matt Pallett. “She had an amazing career. She will leave a lasting impact on our R-P golf program.

“I loved how she finished her career in grand style. It was only fitting.”
