The Reeths-Puffer boys soccer team survived a scare on Thursday and rallied to beat Jenison 2-1 in the opening round of a Division 1 district tournament.

The host Wildcats scored within the first 20 minutes of the game.

The Rockets got even with about six minutes left in the first half when Liam Smith passed to Nick Clemens, who found the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1.

Clemens returned the favor with about 17 minutes left in the second half when he assisted on a goal by Smith, giving Reeths-Puffer its winning margin.

R-P goalie Gage Hopkins got a red card and was ejected with about four minutes left in the game, and the Rockets had to protect their lead playing one man short.

Reeths-Puffer, now 16-4-1, will play Hudsonville on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Holland West Ottawa in the district semifinal round.

The winner will advance to Wednesday’s championship game against Grand Haven or West Ottawa.
