R-P girls golf team

Competing for the third straight day to start the season, the Reeths-Puffer girls golf team had its best outing in recent memory on Wednesday, shooting a 376 to take second place at the 11-team Mona Shores Invitational at Chase Hammond Golf Course.

The Rockets finished behind champion Spring Lake (342). Whitehall finished in third place with 385.

“The team is excited about the second-place trophy and wants more,” said R-P coach Matt Pallett. “We have another tough tournament on Friday. At that point we will know where we’re at and set some team and individual goals. We will then work hard to achieve those goals.”

Paige Anderson and Rowan Bluhm, who each finished in the top 10 in the tournament.

R-P Senior Paige Anderson continued her hot start, shooting a 77 to take second place in the individual competition and earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Junior Rowan Bluhm also had a very good day, shooting an 88 round, tying for sixth place and also earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.

“I am so happy for Rowan Bluhm,” Pallett said. “Last year she had an injury and missed most of the season. She continues to improve. She was steady today and earned that top 10.”

Freshman Sophia McCollom shot a 102, senior Abby Haak shot a 109, junior Avery Luna shot a 112 and freshman Olivia Ambler turned in a 119.

The Rockets will conclude their very busy season-opening week by competing in the Sidney Carfine Memorial Tournament at Grand Valley State University on Friday.
