Reeths-Puffer senior Liam McHugh wrapped up his varsity sports career by finishing in third place in the high jump at the Division 1 state finals at Rockford High School on Saturday.
McHugh (pictured above with his father, former college track standout Jim McHugh) earned All-State honors for his third-place finish, which he gained with a jump of 6 feet, 3 inches.
Ann Arbor Huron's Andrew Harding won the event with a jump of 6 feet, 7 inches while Canton's Nathan Levine was second at 6-6.
McHugh also competed in the 110-meter hurdles and ran his second-best time ever (15.08). He finished in 12th place and just missed out on qualifying for the finals in the event.

“Even though he wanted to finish as a state champion, Liam represented the Rockets with class and integrity in every event and meet all season long,” said R-P Coach Don Ketner. “He had a historic season, breaking the school's high jump record and finishing with the highest individual point total in a season for the Rockets - 176.25 points scored.
“His consistency, leadership and competitiveness was amazing to be a part of and will be missed by coaches and teammates! I am so happy for him achieving All-State status, and I’m excited to see what lies in front of him as he attends Cornerstone University, competing in soccer and track and field!”
Reeths-Puffer’s 400-meter relay team of Kameron Coleman, Caiden Bolduc, Brody Johnson and McHugh also competed and finished in 24th place with a time of 43.72.
