The Reeths-Puffer softball team’s season-opening 11-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday with a 4-2 loss to Wyoming in the first game of an O-K Green conference doubleheader.

The Rockets got right back to their winning ways in the second game, however, posting a 6-4 victory.

R-P only managed five hits in Game 1 and committed several costly errors. Brook Buchan led the offense with a single and a double while Mady Snyder, Megan Barmes and Kaylee Jones each had one hit.

Snyder pitched well in the loss, scattering four hits and striking out 12.

Kyleigh Bilek, who had a triple and pitched a five-hit win in Game 2.

The Rockets bounced back with nine hits in the Game 2 victory.

Jones led the way with two singles and a triple, Jersi Bilek had a single and a double, Natalie Kunnen and Kyleigh Bilek both had triples and Abbie Critchett hit a double.

Kyleigh Bilek pitched a five-hitter with three strikeouts.

“The first game was definitely not our best outing so far this season,” said R-P Coach Sarah Bayle. “We made a couple of errors and didn’t have as many hits as we’re used to.

“That first loss stings a little bit, but we talked in between games about how in the long run, the loss is okay as long as we learn from it and battle back. The response to adversity is the most important thing. And we did it, we responded and took the back half of the doubleheader and I could not be more proud.”
