Sophia Hekkema scored three goals and Billie Tryska added two goals and two assists to lead the Reeths-Puffer girls soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Wyoming on Monday in O-K Green conference play.
The game was won by mercy rule five minutes into the second half.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Rockets, who are now 5-1-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. They will host Zeeland East in a key O-K Green matchup on Thursday.
“We got off to a slow start, but I was proud of the girls for figuring it out on the fly in nasty conditions,” said R-P Coach Kody Harrell. “It was not ideal weather. You could tell we were a bit stiff and flat. The game was moved up a half hour, so that changed our pre-game routine. We were just happy to come away with a win, regardless of the score.
R-P's Billie Tryska, who had 2 goals and 2 assists.
“The next five games are big for us and will be a gut check for our girls.”
The Rockets got on the board when Wyoming accidently knocked the ball into its own net.
R-P followed with goals by Tryska, Hekkema, Alyssa Herbert, Hekkema again, Tryska on a penalty kick, Hekkema and Taeah Rensberger.
Hekkema now has a team-leading eight goals on the season.
Rensberger and Brooke Bradley had single assists. Goalies Ava Klopp and Brenna Ackerman combined for the shutout.
