In a showdown between last two O-K Green conference team wrestling champions, Reeths-Puffer showed a lot of resilience and fight while picking up a 44-30 victory over Holland on Wednesday.

After falling behind 18-0, the Rockets stormed back to tie the match at 18-18. But Holland regained a 30-28 lead with just three bouts remaining in the match.

Jake Rozycki

But those final three bouts went very well for Reeths-Puffer.  Jake Rozycki (126 pounds) pinned his opponent, Ian Cook (132) picked up a major decision victory and Hunter Eek (138) got a pin, giving the Rockets the points they needed to secure the victory.

While it’s early in the season, the win gives R-P a big boost in its bid to win a second straight conference title.

Ian Cook

“I went over and told them I was so happy to have them closing out the dual,” R-P head coach Jared Fleming said about his message to Rozycki, Cook and Eek. “I told them that I believed in them. Through and through, it was a really fun environment and we’re proud of our guys for grinding it out against a tough opponent.”

In the second dual of the night, Reeths-Puffer defeated Hudsonville Unity Christian 60-18 in non-conference action.

Hunter Eek

Undefeated wrestlers on the night for the Rockets were Rozycki, Cook, Eek, Arin Maynard, Sage Secrest, Nathan Reeves, Owen Schab and Nathan Stafford.

Reeths-Puffer will return to action on Saturday in the Williamston Invitational.
